Introduction
The year was 1941, a group of Chemical Engineers headed by Sri Bijan Kumar Datta was bugged with technology in their head and was searching around with Dr. H.L. Ray the ‘The’ then Head of The Dept. of Chemical Engineering of Jadavpur College of Engineering known to be “The Father of Chemical Engineering “ in India for finding and developing products indigenous in nature for developing a congenial industrial atmosphere in British India to boycott import and creating job market in this country .
Thus as a fruit of being came the “PROFILE INK” in 1942. The first indigenous makers of Drawing Ink, India could have with array of colours. Slowly and steadily it grabbed the minds and hearts of the renowned artists of that era starting from Acharrya Abanindra Nath Tagore, Gaganendra Nath Tagore, Acharrya Nandalal Bose, Sri Benod Behari , Ganesh Pyne and so on and so forth . Profile was like a drop of ether in a desert. Profile grabbed the entire Indian market in no time setting aside Pelikan, Staedler, Waterman etc etc. of international repute.
Dr. H.L. Ray while seeing the success of his students encouraged Sri Datta to explore the possibilities in purification of chemicals for laboratory use and sparing some space in his college laboratory for experiments a real time tests. Under his supervision the brand “Basynth” come in to existence in 1946 onwards . That to become a grand success with passing of time. Thus “Profile Colour works ltd.” And Basic & Synthetic Chemicals Ltd got registered on 18th. March 1949.
In 1952 an engineering division evolved with manufacturing of Laboratory Vacuum Pumps. “Basynth” vacuum pumps were a stupendous success and was acknowledged to be the best in the country competing the US and UK brands. The brands has privilege of catering Atomic Energy Commission, Defence Laboratories and Establishments, Universities, R & D L Labs of CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, OEMs for the last seven decades and more .
In the last decade of 21st century the company further diversified to produce Cryogenic Containers for liquid nitrogen and frozen Semen storage and transportation under the brand name “CRYOFIL”.

Location and Office
We are strategically located amidst the Kolkata, with our office space of 1000+ sq. ft. equipped with all necessary peripherals. We have a dedicated department for billing / accounts / one to one meeting room and also we have a conference room with a sitting capacity of 11 to 12 persons at a time.
